The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, (currently there are 193 member states) provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Join New Mexico PRSA on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 12 to 1 p.m. when it hosts a virtual conversation featuring a panel of experts who will provide background and information on how you can get involved and help lead your community to address these Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, an optional 30-minute workshop will be held following the program from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

Featured guests include Amy Bryant, a UNA-USA National Council Regional Representative (2022-2024) and a board member of UNA's Boulder Chapter; Staci Reidinger, owner of Reidinger PR in San Diego, Calif. She is a highly adaptable, award-winning marketing communications professional and Marine Corps combat veteran; and Terry Sloan, the Intergovernmental Tribal Liaison for the City of Albuquerque, and director of his NGO Southwest Native Cultures, where he is an accredited member of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

As a sampling of SDGs and their relevance, here are four areas to consider:

• Environmental area - Goal number six deals with sustainable water use while goal number seven is all about clean and affordable energy
• Economic area - Goal number eight calls for the improvement of economic growth and jobs and goal number nine addresses industry, innovation, and infrastructure
• Social area - Goal number five is all about gender equality to include reproductive rights and goal number ten calls for reduced inequalities for all global citizens including migrants and refugees
• Institutional area - Goal number sixteen addresses Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, i.e. Ethics - What we as PR folks aspire to in cultivating relationships and managing reputations to affect behavior

Meet Our Panelists:
Amy Bryant is the UNA-USA National Council Regional Representative (2022-2024) and a board member of UNA's Boulder Chapter. They are pursuing a Master of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver with an associate in psychology from the Community College of Denver. Amy experienced homelessness as a child and as a result is passionate about macro-level social work and collaborating with local communities to build equity through resources and opportunities. Amy has a background in research and program development and has created programming for DEAI initiatives and allocating resources to underserved populations

Staci Reidinger, APR+M is the Owner of Reidinger PR in San Diego, Calif. She is a highly adaptable, award-winning marketing communications professional and Marine Corps combat veteran with in-depth experience supporting, teaching and leading PR/Media teams responsible for brand management, crisis communication, native content creation, digital marketing, special events, media relations and community outreach. Reidinger serves on PRSA's Voices for Everyone Task Force focusing on Civic Engagement. She passionately dedicates her time to addressing issues of homelessness and refugee outreach in her community, leading civility dinners with members of PRSSA.

Terry A. Sloan is the Intergovernmental Tribal Liaison for the City of Albuquerque. He is a Dine (Navajo) and Hopi Native American from Tuba City, Arizona born in Shiprock, N.M., he is born to the Kinyaa’áanii - Towering House Clan and born for the Tó’aheedlíinii - Water-Flows-Together Clan and a hereditary descendant of Hopi Chief Loloma. Sloan is the Director of his NGO Southwest Native Cultures, where he is an accredited member of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, as an Indigenous Peoples Organization since May 2011. Through SWNC, Sloan is actively consulting and advocating for Indigenous Peoples Rights, Human Rights, the Environment, Climate Change and Indigenous Peoples Environmental, Social and Economic issues.
