Appreciating the history of our public relations profession and the New Mexico PR community will help us continue a legacy of integrity and trust in our craft.
Founded in 1958, the New Mexico chapter of PRSA provides professional development and networking opportunities to our state's communications and public relations professionals. NMPRSA's purpose is to unite the profession, improve the practice, and encourage understanding and acceptance of public relations among all constituencies.
During our annual Cumbre Awards event, Gold, Silver and Bronze Cumbre award certificates will be presented to talented PR professionals. Outstanding entries will receive Best of Show Awards.
In addition to recognizing the best campaigns and tactics, we honor several individuals and organizations for their roles in advancing the PR profession. Plus, this year we introduce at the new DEI Leadership Award!
- DEI Leadership Award: Acknowledges and celebrates exemplary leadership of a person, business, or organization for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in New Mexico with clear positive impacts in areas resulting from these efforts.
- Hirst Vista Award: Honoring visionaries and celebrating a proven track record of excellence among our PR practitioners.
- Jennifer Riordan Community Service Award: Honoring the public relations, communications or community relations professional, who voluntarily use PR skills in an exemplary way to not only give back to the community but also to help it be a better place to live.
- Ted B. Sherwin Member of the Year: For long-standing dedication to the practice of public relations in honor of Ted Sherwin, a founding member of our Chapter.
- Greg Johnston Board Member of Year Award: Given yearly to the board member who goes above and beyond for NMPRSA, honoring Greg Johnston, who died in 2007 after a brief illness.
Each year, the Cumbres Awards event features fun activities including group photo opportunities and a raffle for exciting prize baskets that benefit students in our state’s PR community. The evening will also serve as the chapter's annual meeting with a member vote scheduled to approve its 2023 Board of Directors.

Our Emcee
NMPRSA is excited to have Stephanie Muñiz as the evening's mistress of ceremonies. Stephanie is a bilingual reporter born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico with KOAT Action 7 News. Stephanie grew up with the diversity of New Mexico dancing Ballet Folklórico and playing Mariachi music. Stephanie is a proud Aggie graduate from New Mexico State University. In March 2019 she moved to Yakima, Wash. for her first reporting job at KNDO/KNDU-TV. While in Washington she reported on gang violence, Missing Murdered Indigenous Women Epidemic on the Yakama Nation, as well as farmworker strikes and wildfires. Stephanie is excited to be back home and honored to be able to tell the stories of people all over New Mexico.
